Together We Rise: Stories of Hope & Impact

This quarter has been a powerful reminder of what's possible when community, compassion and action converge. We witnessed incredible stories of resilience and hope as we forged new partnerships, nourished young minds and bodies, and empowered students to think strategically about their futures. These are the highlights that defined our journey these past three months.

Forging a New Path: Our Partnership with Justice Defenders

We are honored to announce a transformative new partnership with Justice Defenders. This collaboration began with a deeply moving visit to a correctional facility, where our team engaged in powerful conversations and listened to the stories of inmates. It was a day that reinforced our belief in the power of second chances and human dignity.

Our joint mission is to:

  • Launch a Chess in Prisons Program to foster cognitive growth, strategic thinking and emotional resilience.
  • Empower incarcerated women by supporting the marketing and sale of their handmade products.
  • Strengthen reintegration support for alumni transitioning back into society.
  • Provide essential donations for children living with their incarcerated mothers.

Investing in Young Minds at St. John's

This quarter has been a busy and exciting one for St John's School. We're now proudly funding two new teachers, bringing the total number of teachers supported by the Ololo Foundation to sixteen. With the addition of Play Group and Grade 8, the school continues to grow and thrive.
On October 27th, our Grade 6 students began their KPSEA exams, and we wish them all the best. To help them prepare, the Foundation provided exam packs for 33 students, each containing the essential supplies they needed to succeed20.
Looking ahead to 2026, we'll continue supporting 17 students on high school scholarships. We're proud of their progress and deeply grateful to everyone who makes this impact possible.

Nourishing Potential: Feeding Program Launches in St John's Kibera

A warm cup can hold more than just food; it can hold hope. This quarter, we launched a weekly feeding program at St. John's in Kibera, serving nutritious bone broth to children facing food insecurity. The program has quickly become a beacon of comfort—a moment the children eagerly anticipate each week. Teachers and parents are already reporting noticeable improvements in concentration, energy and, most importantly, smiles. It's a simple truth, powerfully confirmed: when children are nourished, their potential blossoms.

Checkmate to New Horizons: Our Champions Qualify for Africa!

The Power of a Move: Chess Program Takes Root at Olekasasi
The satisfying thud of a chess piece meeting the board is now a familiar sound at Olekasasi! This quarter, we officially launched our Chess Program, onboarding dedicated coaches to guide students in mastering the game—and the life skills that come with it. Here, chess is more than a pastime; it's a training ground for the mind. Students are cultivating discipline, patience, and the ability to think critically and creatively. The overwhelming enthusiasm from learners, parents, and teachers fuels our passion to expand this transformative initiative.

Our belief in the power of chess was spectacularly validated this quarter! After showcasing impressive talent and determination at regional and national tournaments in Kitale, five of our students have qualified for the African Youth Chess Championship. This is more than a competitive achievement; it's a testament to their hard work and a powerful message to their community. With guidance and opportunity, our youth can rise to represent their community on the continental stage. We are bursting with pride and cannot wait to cheer them on!

Tag Rugby Tournament – 2nd Edition

This quarter, the Ololo grounds burst with energy and excitement as we hosted the 2nd edition of the Tag Rugby Tournament. The event brought together spirited young players from Oloosirkon, Olekasasi, and Naramat Primary Schools, all eager to showcase their growing confidence and skills on the field.
What made this tournament truly special was the spirit of mentorship and teamwork that defined every match. Older players stepped up to assist the coaches, guiding the younger participants through drills and strategies in the weeks leading up to the big day. Their involvement not only strengthened the teams but also nurtured leadership, confidence, and collaboration among the students.

Capturing Moments of Giving

This quarter, we were delighted to have Elisa Locini volunteer with us, supporting program activities and teaching the children a few filming skills that inspired creativity and confidence.
Through the Pack for a Purpose initiative, guests at Ololo Lodge generously donated stationery, games, and clothing, making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to all the families and individuals who continue to support our mission. As we look ahead, we're excited to expand our reach to include children accompanying their mothers in prison—spreading hope and opportunity even further.
